Pressbild-201110312Recotech AB is now crossing a milestone in its business area Ground Support Equipment by entering into a partnership with the aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney in the United States to produce Pratt & Whitney EcoPower(R) Engine Wash equipment for aircraft engines.

EcoPower Engine Wash helps airline operators increase flight engine performance, and lower fuel consumption and emissions. It is an important tool for airlines to meet future stringent emission requirements and fuel economy. This partnership means Recotech AB is a key manufacturer of EcoPower engine wash equipment.

This week is the first delivery of a complete EcoPower engine wash system to a very important Pratt & Whitney customer. Recotech AB will start serie production in temporary premises and employ new staff for expansion to meet the high demand for these units.

Pratt & Whitney's patented EcoPower engine wash system reduces fuel burn by as much as 1.2 percent, eliminating approximately three pounds of carbon dioxide emissions for every pound of fuel saved, while also decreasing engine gas temperature, increasing the amount of time an engine can stay on wing. Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and commercial building industries. EcoPower is a registered trademark of United Technologies Corporation.

New technology

We have made a number of new investments in order to meet the increased demands for quality required by our clients and in order to increase production capacity. These include a new vertical boring mill with powered tools that allows milling and drilling to be performed in the same piece of equipment. We will also be employing our new vacuum furnace during the spring. This furnace has capacity for components up to a weight of three tonnes.

With this newsletter we would like to thank the last year and wish for continued success in 2010.

Efficiency and environment

We have supplied Cleanergy with pre-series production over the years. This has consisted of heaters for solar and biogas-powered Sterling engines that are used to generate electricity. A project focused on environmental efficiency where Recotech in collaboration with the client participates in the product development phase. Environmental work that we are both passionate about and see as a development phase in our production. cleanenergy2

New site manager at Recotech

Besides new employments for increased production in the workshop, we have also appointed new managers. One of these is Lorin Mayer, our new Site Manager, who is an expert in the area of lean manufacturing and who holds a black belt in SixSigma.

“It feels very good”, says Bosse Tell, Managing Director, “Lorin will be a great asset in the development of production here. With his knowledge of production management we will be able to advance our production”.

Lorin Mayer has a past at Recotech, or Volvo Aero Support as it was formally known, and over the years has worked globally in areas including lean production with the Honeywell Aerospace Group and most recently in a production technology executive role at Volvo CE. Our site manager Rolf Öijerholm will retire this spring and pass his duties over to Lorin. We thank Rolf for his time, as we welcome Lorin on board. We are looking forward to an exciting collaboration in an already exciting situation.

Our market position is becoming stronger

glow The energy and shipping sector has placed further orders for the plasma coating of friction layers onto segment couplings. Since these can weight up to 1.4 tonnes and have a total height of 1.4 metres, this fortifies our market position for heavy components in these processes. We look forward to a good working relationship.

With warm spring greetings,

everybody at Recotech
SAAB Aerostructures in Linköping has placed an order for the repair of complex and super alloy components for JAS 39 Gripen. From a strategic perspective, this is a step towards continued intense collaboration within the area of component repair and processing for the aero industry. gripen

Securing the growth areas

Per Önnemar, who has a wealth of experience of material analysis, will strengthen our technology group that works on customer-oriented projects primarily within the area of thermal spraying processes. This together with our new investments means that we are strengthening and safeguarding one of our largest growth areas.

Investment for continued growth

investeringar   In order to increase our capacity we are continually investing in the area of technology. We are currently installing a vacuum furnace classed as type A under the IATA Standard. This furnace has a capacity of up to three tonnes for flash coating and vacuum soldering. With this investment we will double our previous capacity. We have also invested in a microscope for porosimetry. This will enable us to carry out more refined analyses in the laboratory and to produce even stronger product solutions.
Anders Lundquist, former production manager at Fuji Autotech, started to work with us in December 2009. His experience within production development and thermal spraying from Volvo Aero Support and production management from several different manufacturing industries make him a great asset for our continued development.

Anders has previously had a close working relationship with Lorin Mayer, our site manager who we presented in the previous newsletter, when they worked together at Volvo Aero Support. Thanks to this we know that their strengths will complement each other.
